Required trainings
Accessing the the Stanford Cosmogenic Isotope facility requires a two step process. First, you will need to complete the following online trainings through STARS:
- EHS-1900: Chemical Safety for Laboratories
- EHS-4200: General Safety, Injury Prevetion (IIPP), and Emergency Preparedness
- EHS-2200: Compressed Gas Safety
Once you have completed these trainings, email your certificates to Jane Willenbring, jkw1@stanford.edu.
After completing the online trainings, you will schedule a time for a lab-specific training with Aaron. This training will take place in the laboratory and consist of lab-specific instructions on personal protective equipment (PPE), chemical/hazardous waste, appropriate equipment use and cleaning, and emergency procedures. Some procedures in the Cosmo Lab require the use of hydrofluoric acid (HF), thus anyone spending time in the lab needs to be prepared to respond to an HF-related emergency. This will be a main focus of the in-person training in addition to research-appropriate methods.
Acknowledgment
Lab users who publish data from samples processed in the Stanford Cosmogenic Isotope Lab are asked to acknowledge the use of our facility in their work. Example acknowledgment: "Sample preparation was performed at the Stanford Cosmogenic Isotope Lab, RRID:SCR_025082."
